  • This dough bowl has been hand carved out of a beautiful piece of Totara
  • A dough bowl, or trencher, was used during colonial times to mix bread dough in. These bowls were carved out of wood

  • Wood has a natural insulation for keeping the yeast warm, so after kneading the dough in the bowl, the dough is covered and allowed to rise and prove before baking

  • Today, dough bowls have many other uses. To name a few examples, they can be used to serve up roast dinners,  display flower arrangements or use as a fruit bowl
  • It has been oiled using a special heated blend of natural food safe oil and beeswax giving the wood maximum penetration and protection
  • This dough bowl also has grooves carved out of the sides making it easy to pick up and transport
  • Our products may contain variations in colour, size, grain, saw cuts, carving marks, cracks, holes and other minor defects which give all of our wood products a unique finish and effect.  Cracks or holes will either be naturally filled or reinforced if we see the need to do so, always mindful or preserving it’s natural character
